Chapter 9 engaging learners with Digital tools.

Discussion question:
Give examples how and why teachers can use video in the classroom.

Videos are widely used for classroom instruction because they offer ways to present information. Some teachers believe that videos and games are very effective for learning goals. Students are very interested in the PowerPoint. The videos allows teachers to use an abundance of resources. Many high quality video materials are available in many libraries and schools. Videos also have unique learning experiences.

Sites for posting and distributing podcasts. Once a teacher records a podcast, teachers can one list the podcast on iTunes. They can also use podomatic which is free. I love iTunes because I feel like apple is very easy to use. So for me to make a podcasts I would use iTunes. But if I did not like iTunes I would use podomatic. Podomatic is a website that teachers can use to share their podcasts. One thing I really liked about this website was there is an audience counter which shows you how many people have listen to your podcast. I feel like that would be good because it will help the teacher kelp track of the students who are actually listening to the podcasts.




Chapter 9 summary:

Chapter 9 talks about how you can engage learners with digital tools. The first section talks about multimedia technologies in schools today. Multimodal learning happens when teachers combine spoken words with visuals. The next section talks about PowerPoint and other presentation tools. This section talks how you can use PowerPoint in the classroom as well as projectors and document cameras. The next section talks about using videos in the classroom. A lot of teachers use videos in their lessons and they get them from YouTube. YouTube videos focus on the younger generation and it keeps the students focus and interested in what is going on right in front of them. The last section talks about using podcasts and vodcast as tools for teaching. Podcasts are voice recording of teachers and vodcast are videos. I really would love to use podcasts and have students listen to them, I think that would be awesome!

Podcasting is a great and under-utilized tool - glad you discovered its possibilities. lnterestingly, most students have iPods or smart phones with easy access to music and we haven't tapped the amazing accessibility of podcasts which are really quite easy to create. I hope you explore them a bit more! :)
